Chug Along with the Desert Freight Train

This coloring page features a freight train traveling through a desert landscape, with cacti standing tall in front of majestic, sandy mountains. I colored the cacti in bright, vibrant shades of green, and the tracks are kept brown, true to their wooden nature. I have experimented with various shades of brown for the sand hills to add a nice, colorful edge to the overall look.

If you are coloring the sheet, try coloring the train in bolder shades and the skies in brighter blues to give a totally different look altogether.

All Aboard the Friendly Dinosaur Train

I chose to color the dinosaurs in different bright colors to make them look fun, happy, and full of energy. Most of the dinosaurs are in warm colors like red, orange, and yellow, to show that they each have their own personality, and together they look like a group of friends having fun on a train journey.

The train is brown, so it feels solid and earthy, like it belongs in the prehistoric world. The volcano has fiery orange and red lava to show action and energy. The green grass and palm trees make the scene lively and natural. The warm colors make the page look cheerful and exciting, perfect for kids to enjoy.

Bring your coloring pages to life by creating trains that really move! First, pick your favorite train and color it in. If your train has multiple carriages, carefully cut each part out so they are separate pieces. Use split pins to attach the pieces together, making the carriages movable. Now your train can choo choo around in motion – lots of fun for preschoolers! Push it along on a pretend track and watch your colorful train adventure come alive.

Make a Train Storybook

Turn your favorite illustrations into your own train adventure storybook! This craft combines art and storytelling, helping kids create exciting stories about their trains. Pick a few coloring pages and color them in. Then, write a few sentences or a short paragraph for each page, describing what is happening. Use fun action words, silly sounds or speech to make your story come alive!

Build a 3D Paper Tube Train

Turn your train coloring pages into 3D train adventures using paper towels! First, pick your favorite train and color it in. Cut the train out carefully and glue it to the paper tubes to create a standing carriage. Next, you can add paper wheels by cutting circles from paper or cardboard and glue them to the sides of each paper tube. Turn your colored train pages into small 3D worlds with a cardboard box!

Start by coloring your favorite train pages. Then cut out the trains and scenery. Next, take either a shoebox or a cardboard box and set it on its side to create the stage. Glue the background scenery inside the box. Finally, place your colored trains inside the box or along a makeshift track drawn on the box floor. Kids can move the trains around as if they’re traveling through the scene.

Make a Train Station Maze

Combine coloring with problem-solving by designing your own train station maze! Kids can color the trains, then use pens or pencils to help the train find its way to the correct platform.

Print a train out and start with it at one side of the maze, and draw a station at the other side. Draw tunnels and obstacles in between. You can make it simple for younger kids or more complex for slightly older ones with multiple routes to take. To make it more exciting, add small animals and passengers from the coloring pages along the tracks that can act as guides for the train.

Make learning about trains fun with a facts sheet.

First, start with a page featuring a train or train scene, and make sure to leave space around it for the fun facts that you can research based on the type of train it is. For example, ‘Did you know that trains can travel up to 200mph?”.
