Christmas Tree Decorating with Santa
I chose to color this particular illustration because it captures the warm and joyful spirit of Christmas. The illustration also gave me plenty of space to experiment with color harmony. I enjoyed balancing the deep blues of the night sky, the glowing yellows of the stars and tree topper, the bright reds of Santa’s outfit and ornaments, and the rich greens of the elves’ clothes and Christmas tree.
When you are coloring this illustration, try to focus on creating a warm and balanced festive atmosphere. I recommend classic red and white for Santa, while using softer greens and reds for the elves to maintain harmony without crowding the main focal point. To make your Santa look like he’s coming out of the pages, add shading to areas where light falls. You can color the edges of his coat, the folds in his trousers, and the underside of his hat in a dark color to make Santa look 3D. Colored pencils work well for layering, as you can start lightly and gradually build up to darker colors.
If you want to use bright colors, then yellows, blues, reds, and pinks are perfect to use for the Christmas tree ornaments.
