Do you need some holiday cheer coloring inspiration? I have colored one of my favorite illustrations from this series, and hope it inspires you, sparks ideas, adds cheerful colors, and makes your own trees shine.
Santa Decorating the Christmas Tree
For this Christmas tree scene, I chose warm and cheerful colors. Santa is colored in classic bright reds with soft off white hues to keep him looking jolly and festive. The Christmas tree is shaded in deep greens so the ornaments, candy canes, and garlands pop with bright yellows, reds, and blues. I also used golden tones for the star and warm hues for the presents to make them feel exciting and joyful.
If you are coloring this illustration yourself try to create a color palette beforehand as this will help you keep your colors consistent. You can use traditional Christmas colors like I did, but do not be afraid to experiment! Try blues, purples or even rainbow trees for a fun twist.
You can also try laying the colors. Start with a light shade as a base, then add darker colors for shading and depth. For example, you can use a light green for the tree first, then gently add darker greens on one side to create a 3D effect. This layering technique will help to make your trees look more realistic and lively.
In addition to layering, you can also mix coloring tools. Colored pencils are perfect for blending and layering, whilst markers give a bold, vibrant tone, and crayons give a soft finish. You can combine these different tools to make your Christmas tree truly sparkle.
Finally, many of our coloring pages feature ornaments, gifts, snow, and cute little characters like reindeer. Take your time with these fun details. Use fine-tipped markers or colored pencils for small areas. Adding tiny highlights, like a dot of white for a shiny ornament, can make a huge difference.
