Christmas Coloring Ideas and Tips

To give you some festive coloring inspiration, I have picked one of my favorite coloring pages from this collection, the jolly snowman, and colored it in. I hope this colorful winter scene guides your imagination and helps you bring each coloring page to life. I have also included some tips and techniques you can practice with.

Keep Warm and Color the Smiling Snowman

A keep warm and color the smiling snowman coloring page colored in.

This jolly snowman is very much enjoying the Christmas spirit in a lovely living room, with a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows. I went for soft, cool blues and delicate shadows for his cold and frosty body making him look big and soft, while his scarf and hat are in bright reds, greens, and golds to instill that classic holiday season warmth. The glowing fireplace and the twinkling tree lights create the mood of a snug Christmas evening.

Just remember, when you are coloring, that you can use crayons for softer shades. Pencils allow you to add details, such as the tiny baubles on the Christmas tree. Markers make colors bold and bright. For example, you can use markers for Santa’s red hat. You can also mix up the texture. For example, color the Christmas tree with short, quick strokes for a fluffy look, or color the snowman in smooth, long strokes. Try wavy strokes for snow and circular motions for ornaments or tree decorations.

My next tip is to start with big shapes first. Fill these areas first to help create a strong foundation and make it easier to color. Once the big shapes are colored, you can then move to smaller details, such as ornaments, candy canes, or lights. The ornaments and smaller details are also a fun place to add sparkle or glitter. Add sparkles by gently coloring with metallic pens or glitter crayons.

With these tips, your holiday coloring pages will be full of festive magic, bright colors, and fun details!
